Netflix cancellations are always difficult to cover and in 2021 there have been quite a few. Below, we’ll walk you through all of Netflix Original’s major cancellations, including recent cancellations. Zero, Zero Cold, dash & lily and the Israeli series, Hit and run.
If you want to see all of the big cancellations through 2021, we have a cancellations bible that chronicles the majority of Netflix cancellations between 2013 and 2020.
One important distinction we’ll make below is when shows are canceled and left hanging and others that are renewed for final seasons that allow them to have endings of some description. While you might quibble that the result is the same, we’ll still categorize them separately.
We also have to take into account the ghost cancellations of Netflix. We’ve documented them in the past where the series simply falls off the radar with no announcements about its future. Shows in this category include Damn season 2, Letter to the king season 2, Innocents season 2 and countless others.

Produced by Shawn Levy, this is his second major cancellation at Netflix after I Disagree With This. The holiday series adapts the book of the same name and has definitely gotten ready for a second season, but unfortunately that’s not the case.
Was he a victim of COVID? After all, we’ve learned that a second season is in development, but after a worrying update over the summer, Netflix officially unplugged in October 2021, which means we won’t have a new one. season of dash & lily.

Damn

Although we have suspected that it has been canceled for some time (we published in April 2021 that the accessories were being sold) Damn did not officially receive the boost until July 2021.
While reviews were particularly mixed on the series’ first outing, she developed a dedicated fan base, but sadly that wasn’t enough to justify Katherine Langford’s return for a second season.
Emily’s Laboratory of Wonders

Unfortunately, we have learned exclusively that Emily’s Laboratory of Wonders hosted by MIT engineer Emily Calandrelli will not be returning for a second season.
The live educational children’s series first aired in August 2020.

Bonding’s first season won gold and was quickly renewed for a second season. Season 2, on the other hand, fell on Netflix with almost 0 fanfare, which led to the show’s boxing in mid-2021.
While the screenwriter is working with Netflix on future projects, it’s a shame this show came out with a bit of trouble.
The crew

Continuing the live multi-camera sitcom issues for Netflix, The Crew will step down after just one season. Some of the cast members had said the show was canceled before official confirmation in early July 2021.
However, the show apparently performed a little better in Austria and Germany.
Mr. Iglesias

The show was built around the talent of Jamie Foxx but beyond that he struggles to know exactly what it is or who it is for.

Although initially renewed for a full second season, Netflix reportedly reversed its decision in June 2021 but has not ruled out the possibility of the show returning in a movie format in the future.
It comes as Kenya Barris slowly breaks away from her Netflix commitments (although there are still plenty of plans to look forward to).
Great Army

Teen dramas typically run multiple rounds on Netflix, but that wasn’t the case with Great Army which was canceled 8 months after its first fall.
There are also reports of behind-the-scenes unrest on this show as well with writers who left the show “due to racist exploitation and abuse”.
Jupiter’s legacy

Millarworld’s grand first entry on Netflix was cut short after a rather difficult first entry thanks to a myriad of issues. While the cancellation of Jupiter’s Legacy wasn’t exactly announced as a cancellation, it won’t be returning for Season 2.

One of the biggest Netflix Original shows to come out of France is the period action drama series The revolution which unfortunately did not do enough to justify a second season.
Monarch

The creators of this Mexican Spanish-language series took to Instagram to say that Netflix chose not to renew Monarch for a third season and it appears they weren’t officially notified of a cancellation but instead came to the conclusions themselves.
The Duchess

The cancellation was revealed on a podcast where the lead role of this British comedy revealed that The Duchess would not be returning for season 2 on Netflix.
Katherine Ryan revealed, but roughly how many people watched the show saying it had around 10 million viewers. We assume this is the 2 minute metric.
The Irregulars

After just one season, The Irregulars Netflix was shown the door despite the generally positive reviews and was believed to be part of Netflix’s big push into the Sherlock Holmes universe.
The series is cited as beating a hit Marvel show in Nielsen’s top 10 in the US, but even that wasn’t enough to keep it going.
The Chronicles of Idhun
The creator of the Spanish animated series has quietly told fans of The Idhun Chronicles on Twitter that the series will not be returning for future seasons.
