The Arlington County Board will consider and act on dozens of items at its regular council meeting on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. and its recess meeting on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 3 p.m.

The meetings, held in the County Council Chambers on the third floor at 2100 Clarendon Blvd., are open to the public. Visit the county’s website for more information on speaking at a county board meeting.

Virtual participation options are publicly available through Microsoft Teams. We will seek to accommodate visitor preferences for COVID precautions, including distancing; masking is also welcome depending on visitor preference. Comment on agenda items and speak at the meeting

Send written comments on agenda items to the County Board at CountyBoard@arlingtonva.us. All comments received by the Commission form part of the public record and are presented to the members of the Commission when they consider the points.

If you wish to comment during the public comment period at the start of the Regular Hearing, or on any item during the Regular Public Hearing, register in advance on the County Council’s website, where you can also find more details on public participation in virtual council meetings, or call the council office at 703-228-3130 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Online registration opens once the meeting agenda is posted, approximately one week before the meeting.

Saturday, May 14, 2022 – Regular County Council Meeting

1425 N Quincy Street, Sections 27 & 28. The board will consider a use permit and amendment to the original license agreement for parking Arlington Public Schools White Fleet vehicles on county-owned property at the Quincy Street location. Additionally, space at the site will also be used to park ART buses until the Shirlington Road site is completed. County staff worked diligently to engage with residents and mitigate the impact on the surrounding neighborhood.

2629 Shirlington Road, Sections 29 & 30. The Board will consider a use permit and amendment for commercial vehicle parking at the Shirlington Road location. The project, at an estimated cost of $7.3 million, includes construction of an Arlington Transit (ART) operations and maintenance facility, as well as infrastructure and charging equipment for electric buses battery operated (BEB). This project reinforces the Council’s commitment to sustainable energy initiatives and equitable transportation options around Arlington.

Tuesday, May 17, 2022 – County Council Meeting Suspended

The recessed virtual meeting will begin at 3 p.m. with the reports of the members of the board of directors and the county director.

Presentation of the capital improvement plans (CIP) for the financial year 2023. County Executive Mark Schwartz and his team will present a proposed capital improvement plan for the 2023-32 fiscal year, representing a return to ten-year capital planning after a series of shorter-term plans for the pandemic. The Departmental Council will hold working sessions and public hearings on the PIC proposed by the manager in May and June.

Ballston Ward Community Development Authority meeting. County Council will meet as the Ballston Ward Community Development Authority for a mandatory annual meeting.

Public hearings

No earlier than 6:30 p.m. Council will hold a public hearing and consider items from Saturday’s consent agenda. Regular public hearings will take place after consideration of the items postponed to the agenda on consent.
