They will appear in two episodes of the series. It should be noted that this cannot be taken as a certainty, as the casting call went out with the name “Dakota”, which is likely a name used only during production.

Avatar Kuruk debuted in Nickelodeon’s online game Escape from the spirit worldreleased in 2007. In the series, he makes brief appearances from the first episode of season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender. While her story has been explored elsewhere, the show made mention of her in the Season 3 episode “Sozin’s Comet, Part 2: The Old Masters”, when Aang summoned her spirit for guidance.

According to lore, Kuruk was the Water Tribe-born Avatar who followed Airbender Yangchen’s Avatar. The Four Nations were at peace in his time, and as he explained in the series, he became a “go with the flow” type of Avatar and even neglected his duties to some extent, allowing the world to solve their own problems. His battles were primarily with the Spirit World, which ultimately earned Kuruk the attention and disgust of Koh the Face-Stealer. The spirit lured Kuruk’s wife, Ummi, into the spirit world on their wedding day, stealing her face and forcing Kuruk to spend the rest of his life, even in the afterlife, searching for a way to save Ummi.
