Some Minot Public Schools Parents Concerned About Boundary Changes As Part Of District Realignment

MINOT, ND — On Monday night, parents had a chance to share their feedback on future Minot Public School Attendance Zones for all of their schools. This includes the future high school on North Hill and the transformation of downtown Central Campus into a third college.

More than 7,500 students are currently enrolled throughout the Minot School District, and with the planned growth of the district and the two additional schools that were voted on in the December 2021 bond vote, the MPS is considering realigning the current boundaries. of his district.

Parents of MPS students have had a chance to check out the new school boundary maps, leaving some frustrated with the potential changes.

“I came tonight because I live near Stonebridge Farms and I never saw it coming that we would change to Central instead of Ramstad. We can see Ramstad from the road,” said Danelle Dyke, a mother.

The reorganization of the district aims to decongest and use all the facilities.

“We wanted to have a direct feed so that every primary goes to middle school and then you go from that middle school to high school. But when you start looking at some calculations, it just doesn’t work. When you have two high schools, three colleges, it doesn’t quite match up,” said RSP CEO Robert Schwarz.

While the system seems far from perfect for some parents, the limits are still in their infancy.

“We can never have a perfect alignment, but what we want to do is do everything we can to make sure we are using our taxpayers’ money in the best possible way,” said Dr Mark Vollmer, Superintendent of the Minot Public School District.

Parents had the chance to share their thoughts during the session. In April, the council will move forward with a recommendation for the boundaries.

Another meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the future North Hill Secondary School to give parents who were unable to attend Monday’s meeting a chance to speak.
