The Cure Violence meeting of GR will take place on Wednesday evening

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – The city of Grand Rapids is hosting an anti-violence meetup on Wednesday night. The goal is to introduce people to the new community violence reduction and intervention program.

The Urban League of West Michigan runs this program. It uses a public health model to end violence in communities across the country.

In Grand Rapids, the Urban League is implementing the Global Anti-Violence Model that first targets where the violence is occurring and then takes a proactive approach to prevent future incidents.

At the event, people will have the chance to meet the Cure Violence team which consists of nine people: three violence interrupters, three outreach workers, a trauma care advisor, a site supervisor and a manager. site.

Eric Brown, president and CEO of the Urban League of West Michigan, says their goal is to create a stronger, more confident community for everyone.
