The cameos throughout the âScary Movieâ franchise are part of what makes it so great, and âScary Movie 4â is no exception. The film opens with the unlikely duo Dr Phil McGraw and Shaquille O’Neal starring fictional versions of themselves. A number of well-known musicians also appear, including Lil Jon, Fabolous, Chingy, and Bubba Sparxx. And in a fun way, the recognizable voice of James Earl Jones provides the narration for part of the film.
“Scary Movie 4” is primarily a parody of “War of the Worlds”, but “Saw”, “The Village”, “Million Dollar Baby” and “The Grudge” also get the classic parody treatment. Like its predecessors, the film pokes fun at many of the pop culture moments of its day, including the release of the original iPod and Tom Cruise’s famous couch hopping on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” The film also marks Regina Hall and Ann Faris’ last appearance as best friends Brenda Meeks and Cindy Campbell, respectively (pictured above), as the pair will not be returning for âScary Movie 5.â
âScary Movie 4â was a reasonable success, grossing over $ 178 million worldwide against a budget of $ 45 million, per Box Office Mojo. Conversely, he obtained a dismal score of 35% on the tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. That said, audiences watching these fake movies aren’t looking for an Oscar nominee – they want an enjoyable “if-bad-is-good” viewing experience. If you’re looking for a silly, silly movie to remind you of your favorite college humor, you can’t go wrong with âScary Movie 4,â which is now streaming on Netflix.
